Please reblog this new infographic on the manufactured “fiscal cliff” crisis, in which both parties are working with Wall St. to throw poor and working people off the cliff!

Dems are undeserving beneficiaries of progressive, demographic shifts

Extremely high unemployment and increasing poverty, the economic trends that have characterized the last four years, would normally doom an incumbent president. Barack Obama was reelected to a second term, however, primarily because a majority of the population feared and rejected the program of Romney, Ryan and the extreme right. President Obama was the beneficiary of a continuing progressive shift in popular attitudes in the United States and the changing composition of the U.S. electorate.

Ninety-three percent of African American voters, 75 percent of Latinos, and 74 percent of Asian Americans supported Obama. Romney won a considerable majority of white voters—more than McCain did in 2008 and similar to Bush’s rate in 2004 over Kerry—but tens of millions of white people of all social classes also voted for Obama. Fifty-five percent of women, 60 percent of young people 18-29 years of age, and 77 percent of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people voted for his reelection.

In a highly significant exit poll, 66 percent of the voters stated that they favored a “pathway to citizenship” for undocumented people. The majority of the electorate supported abortion rights. For the first time, a majority opinion throughout the country supported marriage equality for LGBT people, not just civil unions. Maine, Maryland and Washington state voters approved ballot measures legalizing same-sex marriage, and Minnesota voters rejected a Constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, the first times that statewide popular votes on marriage equality have won.

President Obama was the beneficiary of an enormous effort by organized labor, which mobilized workers around the country to knock on doors and make phone calls in support of the president. Union members voted for him by a more than 2-1 margin.

Both the Republicans and Democrats are capitalist ruling-class parties. The president, in this case President Obama, is the CEO of the capitalist state. This state exists to serve the interests of the capitalist class and pursue their interests globally. Both parties in office serve the interests of the biggest banks, oil companies, and the military-industrial complex. They are equally imperialist. Both the Democratic and Republican parties support endless wars, occupations, drone attacks, economic sanctions and all of the other tactics in the imperialist arsenal against the oppressed peoples and nations of the world.

“For those of you who think the election results were a victory, this is for you.

People who voted for Obama thinking they’re voting for progress just voted for 4 more years of a foreign policy that maims and kills children and innocent people over seas. Obama also deported and tore apart more families in his first term than in any of Bush’s terms.

Obama will never care about the rights of working people, his role is merely to be the CEO of a brutal system of oppression. Don’t get caught up in the hype of the “lesser of two evils” voting…organize and mobilize for a better system!
Vote for Socialism! www.votepsl.org

PSL Presidential Candidate Peta Lindsay Responds to Tonight's Presidential Debate - We need a foreign policy "based on mutual respect, equality and self determination."

PSL Presidential Candidate Peta Lindsay Responds to Tonight's Presidential Debate - We need a foreign policy "based on mutual respect, equality and self determination." :

As President Obama and Mitt Romney held their final debate tonight, socialist PSL Presidential Candidate Peta Lindsay - who has been excluded from the Presidential Debates - joined a protest outside in Boca Raton, Florida, prior to issuing the following statement on U.S. foreign policy.

Tonight’s debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney proved that the two candidates have far more in common with each other than that which separates them on the issue of foreign policy.

Both support crippling economic sanctions against the people of Iran on the pretext that Iran may someday build a nuclear weapon, while both support the maintenance of the U.S.’s own nuclear arsenal that includes more than 5,000 nuclear weapons. In this instance, both are guilty of using the issue of nuclear weapons as a smokescreen masking the real U.S. agenda, which is to overthrow the government in Iran and replace it with a U.S. puppet or proxy regime similar to what the United States and Britain did in 1953, bringing the Shah of Iran to power.

While Mitt Romney engages in the blame game over the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya, both President Obama and Romney embrace and take full responsibility for NATO’s war of aggression that created the current chaos in Libya. Both President Obama and his Republican challenger desire the establishment of a client regime in Libya, a country that possesses Africa’s largest oil reserves.

While Mitt Romney pretends that the Obama administration has been less supportive of Israel, the facts are that the president and both houses of Congress continue to provide a blank check to the Israeli regime as it continues its endless war against the Palestinian people while threatening new wars against Iran and other countries in the Middle East.

Both President Obama and Mitt Romney are committed to spending hundreds of billions more to create a so-called Missile Defense Shield in Europe and in Asia, which can be considered only as a threat directed against Russia and the People’s Republic of China. The Missile Defense Shield is nothing other than an attempt to gain military superiority and a first-strike nuclear capability against Russia and China.

President Obama and the Republican challenger have supported the aggressive expansion of South Korean missile capabilities while insisting on massive war games against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and severe economic sanctions against North Korea.

President Obama and Mitt Romney intend to keep open the 900 U.S. military bases and installations located in 130 countries around the world in order to enforce the U.S. Empire; meaning, to pursue the interests of the biggest banks and corporations in their global endeavors.

Both President Obama and Mitt Romney are committed to expanding the network of U.S. drone bases and drone attacks in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Both candidates support sharp and deep social service cutbacks and reductions in Social Security and Medicare while spending more than $600 billion on war and weapons—more than any other country in the world.

The Peta Lindsay/Yari Osorio PSL Presidential Campaign calls for the creation of a foreign policy that is based on the actual needs of the people of the United States rather than an imperialist establishment that seeks to dominate the peoples of Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe for the sake of a small handful of billionaires, bankers, banks and corporations.

We call for the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. and other foreign forces from Afghanistan, an end to all aid to Israel, the end of economic sanctions on Iran, an end to the U.S. policy of promoting civil war in Syria, an end to the 50-year-long economic blockade of socialist Cuba, a closing of all drone bases and an end to all drone attacks, and the closing of all foreign U.S. military bases.

Instead of a foreign policy based on the needs of an imperialist economic system, the people of the United States need a foreign policy that is based on mutual respect, equality and self determination.

Antiwar March on 11-year anniversary of the Afghanistan War

Agitating in Hollywood, Calif. We marched on the Walk of Fame and in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, reaching thousands of tourists and locals. The march ended in front of a recruiting station, effectively shutting it down for the remainder of the day.

“We socialists in the United States celebrate with Venezuela’s working and poor people the re-election of Hugo Chávez”

Socialists throughout the Americas, and indeed throughout the world, join with the Venezuelan working people in celebrating the re-election of Hugo Chávez as Venezuela’s president.

As the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) in the United States, we recognize that Chávez’s victory is a step forward for working and poor people everywhere.

Wall Street and the CIA are disappointed today for the same reason that millions of people in Venezuela and throughout Latin America are celebrating.

Chávez and the Bolivarian revolutionary process seek to overturn the wretched capitalist status quo that has allowed the elites to get ever richer while the masses of people suffer in deep poverty.

Massive support for the Bolivarian revolution could be seen in a huge rally two days before the election, on Friday, Oct. 5, with 3 million people dressed in bright red packing seven main avenues of the capital.

With 54.42 percent of a record-turnout vote, Chávez has won a fourth term as president of Venezuela in a race widely recognized as a crucial struggle between the progressive forces of the “Bolivarian Revolution” and the right-wing opposition of U.S.-backed Henrique Capriles. His Democratic Unity coalition (MUD) had hoped to return the wealthy classes — national and foreign — to their former unchallenged status by reversing the social and economic gains of the vast majority of Venezuelans.

Before Chávez’s presidency, at least 66 percent of the population of Venezuela — a country with one of the highest oil and natural gas reserves in the world — suffered from deep poverty. Despite enormous natural and industrial wealth, the two dominant capitalist parties, Copei and Acción Democrática, ran the government to benefit both the Venezuelan elite and U.S. and British oil companies.

That old social order is coming undone in Latin America. It needs an equally radical transformation in North America, where capitalism has allowed the 400 richest billionaires to increase their wealth by 13 percent in the last year while millions lost their jobs, homes and health insurance while the government handed their tax dollars over to the biggest banks and the criminal cliques who run them.

Today, socialist and progressive pro-worker movements are struggling throughout the Americas for a new world. The governments of Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador and, of course, Cuba, are representative of a hemispheric trend to overturn the old, oppressive order.

This is not the Latin America of yesterday, when U.S. imperialism was able to expel Cuba from the Organization of American States, invade Dominican Republic in 1965, overthrow Salvador Allende in 1973, invade Grenada in 1983 and Panama in 1989.

Now there is a powerful anti-imperialist alliance of countries that have supported each other’s social development, sharing resources and building solidarity.

We, in the United States, will continue to demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Venezuela as they struggle for workers rights, for justice and for socialism. We oppose the policies of the U.S. government that continue to treat Latin America as its colonial “backyard.”

Hey Mitt: Are GE, Dow Jones, Ford and BofA part of your 47 percent?

Hey Mitt: Are GE, Dow Jones, Ford and BofA part of your 47 percent?:

By the Lindsay/Osorio 2012 Presidential Campaign

September 21, 2012

A video released Sept. 17 showed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney deriding those who he labeled as the 47 percent of the population “who are dependent upon government … who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them.”

Unintentionally, Romney’s outrageous words provided a fitting description for another group—the biggest banks and corporations who have been bailed out and subsidized to the tuned of hundreds of billions and trillions of dollars.

Now it has been revealed that many states turn over to corporate giants the state income tax collected from those corporations’ employees! This form of bribery is demanded by companies like GE, Dow Jones, Ford, Chrysler, Motorola, and others as part of the price of doing business in those states. Many states also allow big retailers like Wal-Mart, Lowe’s and others to keep all or part of the state sales taxes they collect.

But Mitt had no words of contempt for these corporate leeches. His ultra-condescending speech was aimed at the estimated 146 million people who receive Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, unemployment insurance or some other basic social benefit that overwhelmingly go to people struggling to keep their heads above water, including the elderly, single mothers and infant children.

While the bank and corporate bailouts supported by both Democrats and Republicans to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars in 2008-09 are relatively well-known, the widespread practice of states turning over state income taxes collected from workers to the corporations employing them has only been recently exposed in a new book by investigative reporter David Cay Johnston, “The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use ‘Plain English’ to Rob You Blind.”

Interviewed on the NPR program “Fresh Air” on Sept. 20, Johnston reported that at least 19 state legislatures have authorized such payments for the purpose of retaining corporations in their states, or persuading companies to move in. In many cases, the corporations receive additional inducements including exemption of their profits from state taxes, subsidized buildings and infrastructure, and more.

The state income tax scheme works like this, according to Johnston: Corporations deduct state taxes from employees and then receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit from the state government. If at the end of the year a worker hasn’t had enough deducted and must send in a check along with his or her tax filing, the corporation receives that additional payment as well.

These payments are the source of huge added profits. Over the decade ending in 2011, Motorola received $136 million from the state of Illinois alone, and Navistar $62.1 million. (Illinois Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity chart in Reuters article by Johnston, July 19, 2011).

As Johnston points out, the taxes paid out to the corporations result in higher taxes or reduced services for everyone else.

Johnston himself is an advocate of the capitalist “market economy,” which he believes is being endangered by such payoffs and subsidies at the public expense. But “Fine Print” and Johnston’s earlier writings provide overwhelming evidence that the entire capitalist system is both “dependent upon government” and incurably corrupt.

A woman’s place is in the struggle! March on August 26th...

A woman’s place is in the struggle! March on August 26th to defend women’s rights!

We demand:

Full reproductive rights now: Access to safe, legal abortion and birth control – on demand. We want healthcare that covers these services and access to it for all women. We want the information that we need to stay healthy, including an end to abstinence-only sex education in our schools.

Defend women in the workplace: Close the wage gap and provide equal pay for equal work. All jobs must offer maternity leave and stop penalizing working mothers. End sexual harassment at work.

Stop the budget cuts: Cutting federal and state social services punishes poor women. We demand government funding for social services that millions of working and poor women depend on. Jobs, education, housing and healthcare are women’s rights.

We want full equality and respect now: Fight racism, sexism and anti-LGBT bigotry. Stop the exploitation and commercialization of women in mass media. An injury to one is an injury to all!

The writer was on the scene within fourteen hours of the incident interviewing victims, witnesses, and activists.

For a brief moment on the evening of July 21, the people of a small Latino community in Anaheim, California came together, abandoned their fear of the police and fought back in self-defense.

Manuel Diaz, another victim of police terror

The crowd of families, nearly 100 people, had come out to protest the murder of 24 year-old Manuel Diaz, an unarmed man, by Anaheim police just a few hours before.

In a tragic turn of events, yet another resident was killed by Anaheim police at night on July 22. Witnesses say the victim was already detained when he was shot. The community again responded in protest, with about 200 people rallying until about 4 AM.

More protests are planned in Anaheim in the coming days. JAIL KILLER COPS!

Women are being harassed at medical clinics and by new laws that eliminate or make it virtually impossible to seek an abortion. Women are even being denied access to contraception that could prevent unwanted pregnancy. Recently, Mississippi’s only abortion clinic was nearly shut down.

Women have a FUNDAMENTAL right to choose whether to have children and to control their own bodies. The PSL’s Lindsay/Osorio campaign is committed to making it a right for women to have FREE, SAFE, LEGAL abortions on demand!

“The United States, Britain, France are on a regime change path, they recognize the vulnerabilities in different societies - if they’re divided by religion or etho-centric divide - those divisions are then utilized to break up the country. We see that in the case of Iraq, that’s precisely what the United States did.

In the case of Syria, the U.S, Britain and France are on the quest of recolonizing - of a different kind of colonization - but a colonization nonetheless, of the entire oil rich, geo-strategically important region.

The people of Syria are pawns in somebody else’s geo-strategic chess board and that’s why the civil war is happening.”
